On the morning of November 17, hosted by the Dean of the School of Physical Education, the opening ceremony of the 37th school sports meeting was held at the South Lake Center, attended by the Standing Committee of the Party committee, heads of relevant functional departments together with teachers and students.
In the beginning, the National Flag Guard came out, escorting the national flag. Next, accompanied by the Athlete March, the square matrix of each school marched into the field in a vigorous pace, followed by performances with characteristics, which all won a burst of applause and cheers.

After the flag-raising ceremony, Vice President Du Dongyun made an opening speech. He emphasized that SCMZU attached great importance to sports and hoped the sports meeting could serve as an inspiration for teachers and students to develop exercise habits. Du also expected athletes to perform all on top form, give a good account of themselves and display fine sportsmanship as well.
The wonderful performances brought by the School of Music and Dance, the Jump Rope Team of the School of Physical Education, and the Dance Troupe of the School Committee received great applause, including "Shennongjia Bang Drum", "Dragon Dance of the Nine Heavens", "Peacock Fly", and "Beautiful China", rich in national features, showing magnificent imposing manner and propagating sports spirit.
The thunderous drums added to the gaiety of the sports meeting. On the field, field and track events, ball games, martial arts, aerobics, tug of war, Chinese chess, soft darts and other competitions went on with great enthusiasm, among which 15 students (17 person-time) broke the school record in 11 events. Lan Yuexi from School of Telecommunication and Ling Xuebing from School of Management broke the women's 100m hurdles record. Hao Wenjing, Hong Yuxian and Guli Kirz from School of Management broke the women's 200m, 400m and 3000m records respectively, while Wu Guiling broke the women's 800m and 1,500m records. Both Zhao Ri Gebatu from School of Chemical Materials and Yan Lei from School of Pharmacy broke the men's 400m record. Xiao Yiming from School of Computer Science and Zou Mingtao from School of Pharmacy broke the men's 800m record. The men’s 1500m record was broken by Wang Xiaohua from School of Chemical Materials, Zhang Anzhe and Peng Yusen from School of Telecommunication, and Zou Mingtao from School of Pharmacy. The men’s 3000m record and the men’s shot put record were broken by Deng Fang from School of Telecommunication and Yu Ziyang from School of Chemical Materials respectively.

On the afternoon of November 20, the sports meeting came to a close. Hao Jiachun announced the results of the competition, and the leaders of the university presented awards to the representatives of the winning schools. School of Telecommunication, School of Management, School of Chemical Materials, School of Computer Science, School of Economics, School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Literature, Journalism and Communication, and School of Mathematics and Statistics won the top eight in men’s and women’s team total. School of Management, School of Telecommunication, School of Literature, Journalism and Communication, School of Chemical Materials, School of Economics, School of Computer Science, School of Resources and Environment, and School of Biology won the top eight in women’s team total. School of Telecommunication, School of Chemical Materials, School of Computer Science, School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Pharmacy, School of Management, School of Economics, and School of Literature, Journalism and Communication won the top eight in men's team total. School of Computer Science, the first team of the Administration, School of Foreign Languages, School of Pharmacy, School of Biology and the Library Union won the top six in staff’s team total. The Best Organization award went to School of Marxism, School of Foreign Languages, School of Economics, School of Ethnology and Sociology, School of Literature, Journalism and Communication, School of Music and Dance, School of Management, and School of Telecommunications.
At the closing ceremony, Song Fajun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice president, on behalf of SCMZU, expressed his appreciation to the judges and the staff, then congratulated the athletes who achieved excellent results. In a burst of applause, Bian Jing, the secretary of the Party Committee, announced the successful hold of the 37th school sports meeting.
